Which Airport is top of the Twittairport chart for Interaction?

“After only three weeks of service @DXBUpdates the Dubai Airports real-time flight information service jumps to the number 1 spot”, Paul Brugger, CEO of Irish software company TIC, states at LinkedIn, “beating 749 other airport accounts with a massive 99.89% for interaction.”

Paul refers to our Twittairport Web App. Amongst other statistic, this tool shows the Interaction an airport Twitter account has with other Twitter users: Like sending them a @reply or retweeting one of their Tweets. In comparison to the total number of airports’ posts one can see how responsive their Twitter service is.

One Airport might act more like a storyteller or like a proactive advisor. Other airports want to share the passengers’ moments with the social crowd and retweet other Tweets.

Top 10 Twittairports and their Degree of Interaction (February 2015) by solterbeck.net

This Interaction chart shows the share of replies and retweets in the total number of Tweets of particular airports released in February 2015. The rank is in accordance with the total number each airport released last month. Airport Barquisimeto International in Venezuela (Twitter username @aeropuertolara) wrote 3,199 Tweets in February. 62.58% of them were retweets. 36.95% were literal posts. As we can see in their timeline most of these Tweets are flight status messages.

However, Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam, Netherlands) uses Twitter to intensive customer communication. 98.08% of total tweets in February were replies to customer tweets. Amsterdam numbers were exceeded by the Twitter account of Dubai Airport. “The @DXBUpdates Service… communicates to passengers personally, based on the passengers individual flight data and social profile. The multilingual service is fully automated, providing real-time flight updates as well as exclusive airport offers”, Paul further writes at that LinkedIn post. The software behind is BizTweet, a product by Mr Brugger’s company TIC. “BizTweet uses advanced decisioning technology to ensure the communication is both relevant and personal.” The Irish software company launched BizTweet at Dubai Airport on 3 February 2015. Taking part by simply entering the passenger’s Twitter handle in the Airports Website or tweet the flight number to @dxbupdates.

Example of a personal BizTweet message from @dxbupdates:

We have asked Paul Brugger recently, what is the difference to the similar Twitter Service at other airports? We were told, that usually these airports “provide the same content to everyone on the same flight, ours is personal based on the pax data.” What if two guys would take the same flight. Wouldn’t the both get the Costa Coffee voucher? Paul added: “DXB have the ability to change that based on social and/or flight data.” Everything is possible, nothing is stipulated – a clever approach.

No. 1 – Los Angeles Airport (USA)

We are not pretty sure about what the hype was at @flyLAXairport. A guy, named @douncasterlou aka @poyboylouwt (with a rofile photo, showing obviously One Direction pop star Louis Tomlinson) tweeted on February, 5th, that he lost his parents at Los Angeles Airport. He sent after two pictures (we don’t know, what they really show? A band on the run?), how his parents should look like. Weird. @flyLAXairport asked later whether the parents were found. A joke, where Thousands of Followers enjoyed.

Give peace a Chance: Where statistics won’t tell us the truth!

As far we are sorting in our web tool Twittairport the list of “Top Airports by Number of Followers (January 2015)” by “Percentage Change”, then you will see @dok_aero at number one. From December 2014 to January 2015 they increased their Follower numbers by almost 75% (absolute from 466 Followers to 815). @dok_aero is the International Airport Donetsk Sergey Prokofiev in eastern Ukraine … now a warzone. It’s a tragedy, what is going on in our European neighborhood.

@dok_aero’s last Tweet is from August 30, 2014. Obviously in a good mood they tweeted: “What a day of aviation! Easy takeoffs and landings and, most importantly, peaceful and clear skies! Hold the steering wheel tight!”

A couple of weeks later hostile troops were fighting for Donetsk. Our deepest sympathy with all the victims and their beloved ones. It’s a tragedy.

Twittairport: Venezuelan airport group celebrates leadership in global Twitter Airport Ranking

A few days ago we took notice of a web post in the Venezuelan online magazine Noticia. Our Twittairport Ranking from November 2014 had been referred in this article.

Thus two of the major airports in the Venezuelan state-owned airport group BAER are leaders in our statistics. With the Twitter account of the “International Airport La Chinita” (@AeropuertoZulia) the most tweets ever were published. Constantly for some time the “Jacinto Lara International Airport” (@aeropuertolara) has achieved the highest monthly numbers of tweets.

Two reasons obviously for the team of BAER to celebrate these efforts, as we can see in the picture. If there would be a chance one day to come across with this nice team, we would be pleased to handover a real award.

Noticia News Article on Twittairport ranking Zulia and Lara November 23, 2014 (C) Noticia

As it is told in the Noticia article, “these achievements are part of the communication being conducted by state-owned airport group BAER in subjection to the guidelines of Ministry for Water and Air Transport and is part of the tenth strategic line of the Venezuelan Government to promote a cultural and communicational revolution faithful to the legacy” of the late country leader Hugo Chavez.
